What is a non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT)?

NEMT is transportation by ambulance, wheelchair van, who cannot use public or private transportation to get to and from covered medical appts, and who needs assistance to ambulate.

What is nonmedical transportation (NMT)?

NMT is private or public transportation to and from medical appointments for eligible members. Under NMT service we provide transportation to community outings:

  • Shopping
  • YMCA
  • Adult Day Centers

What type of NEMT Services Does Arbor Village Services provide?

Arbor Village Services provides ambulatory NEMT services. We will assist in and out of vehicle. We provide Door to Door assistance. We do assistance with wheelchairs/ and or rollators that need to be put into the vehicle during the ride. We Do not offer electric wheelchair assistance. We Do not offer wheelchair accessible vehicles.

Medicaid eligible members can receive NEMT services from Arbor Village Services. We do offer services to private paying members as well.

What is the Difference between NEMT and NMT?

NEMT is used for Non- Emergency Medical Transportation

  • Medical Appointments, including family planning, mental health, and substance use disorder services
  • Dialysis
  • Prescription pick-ups
  • Dental Appointments
  • Picking-up medical supplies and equipment

NMT is used for Non-Medical Transportation

  • YMCA
  • Adult Day Centers
  • Shopping
  • Community Outings

When should I request transportation?

Please contact your transportation provider as soon as you know about an appointment. Please call ahead at 2-3 days before an appt to make sure you have a scheduled ride during the time you are needing to be picked -up. If you have more than one appointment that is on-going, you can request transportation cover those appointments as well.

Can I accompany my child or spouse to an appointment?

Yes, one assistance such as parent/guardian or spouse, may accompany a member on a trip provided. Transportation is not available for more than one assistant. If you have someone to assist you, please request it at the time of scheduling your appointment
